A little about me

I hope you have had a chance to review my resume and see my past jobs, education, and accomplishments. If you haven’t you can find that here! Instead of reiterating those details here, I want to use this blurb to share a few things that may not be immediately obvious from my resume.

First and foremost, I am a nerd—in both the traditional sci-fi sense and in my love for gadgets and technology. Most of my free time is spent watching reviews of TVs, computer parts, and other tech items that I rarely intend to purchase. I truly enjoy learning about what’s out there. Occasionally, I find a product or software that I believe will enhance my daily life, and I become obsessed with it. I research it extensively and enthusiastically recommend it to everyone I know. Currently, I am fascinated by $20 in-ear monitors that offer exceptional sound quality for their price. I would love to tell you more about them if given the chance.

Secondly, I collect bourbon. My collection has grown to around 60 bottles, and each one has a story that I can talk about for hours. Although I hardly drink it now because many bottles are difficult or expensive to replace, I spend a good portion of my weekends visiting local liquor stores to find new releases and make connections within the whiskey community. For me, the thrill of finding a rare bottle at a good price is often more enjoyable than the taste itself.

Third, I enjoy reading the news—not just on my phone, which I still do, but also in print. I receive a copy of the Wall Street Journal at my apartment building every morning, and I read it from back to front (except for the fashion section, which my fiancée requests). Even though I work in media in this digital age, I appreciate traditional watches and newspapers.

A computer nerd who loves non-smart watches and bourbon might not seem like a conventional combination on paper, but that’s part of my charm. I enjoy having my hands in various metaphorical and physical cookie jars. In my short career, I have edited segments for an Emmy-winning TV series, helped produce four Super Bowl commercials, and interned at a newspaper. It may not flow together seamlessly, but I relish the opportunity to do a little bit of everything and understand every part of every process.

Few things excite me more than tackling a new challenge, especially a difficult one. I enjoy learning new skills to add to my toolbelt—or, to continue the metaphor, finding more cookie jars to dip my hands into.

I would love the opportunity to chat and discover what new cookie jars I can explore with your team.

Have a fun day,

Will Conover

A series I created at the OU Daily to be a quick informative show about news and upcoming events on campus. The show was sponsored and created a new revenue stream. It averaged about 6,000 views a week.
